In Celebration of the Goddess

In Celebration of the Goddess – : Music and Planetarium Dome Experience

Commissioned by Blue Heron Hill Productions

Saturday, April 21, 2012, 7pm Bishop Planetarium, Bradenton Florida

This hour-long piece of electro-acoustic sound and visual experience using transformed and processed source material from operatic performance is inspired by the idea of emotive responses to the astronomical and therefore, cyclical changes that are slowly occurring in our galaxy.

Conjunctions of stars and planets and other events such as solar flares from our sun represent cycles of time on a very large scale. The year also 2012 also has particular significance for the Mayan calendar as it resets a ’13 Baktun’ 5,125 year cycle, 13.0.0.0.0 on 21 December 2012.

Whether or not these events will have substantial effects on our physical and or spiritual existence is a question dismissed by some and embraced by others. It is this aspect of human perception and its many colors, hopes and doubts that this sound and light piece aims to reflect upon. In its simple form, art meets science and myth.

Join the South Florida Museum for an immersive musical experience in the Bishop Planetarium Theater. Musician Paul Ramshaw will present, ‘In Celebration of the Goddess’, a listening experience inspired by cycles within a variety of cultures, mythology and science. The ambient musical arrangements will be accompanied by intriguing abstract, multiple-projection mapping video on the planetarium dome.  Admission $10, call Amara to purchase tickets (941) 746-4131, ext. 11
